Terms and Conditions – Cycle the Coast

These Terms and Conditions apply to all bicycle rentals and services provided by Cycle the Coast. By making a booking or using our services, you agree to the following terms.

1. General

Cycle the Coast agrees to provide the bicycle to the renter (the “Lessee”), and the Lessee agrees to pay the rental fee according to the valid price list.

The rental period (start and end date/time) is agreed in advance and confirmed at the time of booking or rental.

2. Booking & Payment

Bookings can be made via our website, email, or WhatsApp.

The rental fee is paid in advance or at the start of the rental, depending on the agreement. A deposit may be required to secure the reservation and cover potential damage or theft.

By providing payment details, the Lessee authorizes Cycle the Coast to charge any additional costs incurred during the rental period (damage, theft, late return, etc.).

3. Rental Period

The rental period is counted from the day of collection to the day of return.

All bikes must be returned at the agreed time and location. Late returns may result in additional charges according to the valid price list.

Returns and collections outside opening hours may be arranged in advance, depending on availability.

4. Use of the Bicycle

The Lessee agrees to:

  • Use the bicycle responsibly and only for its intended purpose (cycling)
  • Not lend, sublease, or transfer the bicycle to any third party
  • Keep the bicycle under direct supervision at all times and properly secured when not in use — even when locked, the bicycle must not be left unattended
  • Not use the bicycle on terrain unsuitable for its type
  • Not modify the bicycle in any way, except for adjusting the saddle height and changing pedals

Our rental bikes are intended for cycling and not for misuse or inappropriate terrain.

5. Responsibility & Liability

The rental period is counted from the day of collection to the day of return.

All bikes must be returned at the agreed time and location. Late returns may result in additional charges according to the valid price list.

Returns and collections outside opening hours may be arranged in advance, depending on availability.

6. Damage & Theft

7. Bike Condition

It is the Lessee’s responsibility to check that the bicycle is in good condition and complete before each ride. By beginning each ride, the Lessee confirms that the bike is in proper working condition.

8. Health & Safety

The Lessee confirms that:

  • They are physically fit and capable of riding a bicycle
  • They have sufficient control over the rented equipment
  • They have valid travel and health insurance

Cycle the Coast will not enter into a rental agreement with persons under 18 years of age.

Regarding helmet use, Croatian law requires helmets for all riders under 16 when riding on the road. For adults, helmet use is not mandatory in Croatia and is not required on bike paths. If a child is being carried in a bike seat, the child must wear a properly fastened helmet. Even when not legally required, we always recommend wearing a helmet for your safety.

9. Traffic Rules

The Lessee agrees to follow all applicable traffic laws and safety regulations. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Using front and rear lights when riding at night or in low visibility conditions
  • Not using a mobile phone while riding unless using a hands-free setup; riding with headphones in both ears is not allowed, as it reduces awareness and the ability to react safely
  • Not riding on highways, express roads, or roads intended exclusively for motor vehicles

For all other rules and regulations, please refer to the Croatian Road Traffic Safety Act.

10. Identification & Group Rentals

At the time of rental, the Lessee must present a valid ID card or passport.

When renting multiple bicycles, one person may sign the rental agreement and present their identification on behalf of the entire group. By doing so, that person accepts full legal and financial responsibility for all bicycles rented, including any damage, theft, or loss caused by any member of the group during the rental period.

The signing Lessee also confirms on behalf of all riders that each person in the group is in good health, capable of riding a bicycle, has sufficient control over the rented equipment, and holds valid travel and health insurance.

11. Collection & Return

Bikes must be collected and returned during opening hours: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at our location at Ulica kralja Zvonimira 32, Podstrana.

Bikes must be returned by 8:00 PM on the final day of your reservation, unless otherwise agreed. A €20 late fee will apply for late returns.

Returns outside of opening hours may be arranged in advance, depending on availability.

Delivery and pick-up also take place within opening hours at agreed locations in Split and Podstrana.

On special request, you may collect your bike the evening before your rental starts. This is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

After return, the bike will be inspected. If damage is found and no insurance was purchased, payment is required immediately. If returned outside working hours, inspection will be done later and a payment link may be sent if needed.

12. Damage Insurance (Optional)

We offer bike damage insurance for €15 per day per bike.

The insurance covers accidental damage to the rental bicycle during the rental period, including crash-related or other unexpected damage. It does not cover theft or loss of the bicycle, nor any damage caused while transporting the bike in your own vehicle. The insurance is linked to a specific bicycle and cannot be transferred to another bike.

Any damage, no matter how small, must always be reported to us so we can keep all bikes in good condition for the next customer.

You can add the insurance when making your booking by selecting the insurance option in the booking form on our website.

13. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be communicated in advance.

Refunds depend on the cancellation timing and may vary depending on the season and booking conditions.

No refunds are provided for early returns or unused rental days.

14. Disputes

Both parties agree to resolve any disputes amicably. If not possible, the competent court in Split, Croatia, shall have jurisdiction.

In case of discrepancies between language versions, the Croatian version shall prevail.

15. Acceptance of Terms

By booking or renting a bicycle, the Lessee confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
