Island Hopping from Split

Exploring the Croatian islands is a must when visiting Split—and doing it on two wheels gives you a completely different experience. Quiet roads, scenic coastal views, traditional villages, and local food make island hopping one of the best cycling adventures in Dalmatia.

With regular ferry connections, it’s easy to take a bike from Split and explore islands like Brač, Hvar, Šolta, Vis or Korčula — each offering a unique riding experience.

Can you take a bike to the islands?

Yes, bikes can be transported on ferries to the islands in Croatia. This makes island hopping simple and flexible.

Catamarans (passenger-only boats) are also commonly used. On Krilo catamarans, bikes are allowed and the price is the same as for a passenger. However, Jadrolinija catamarans do not accept bikes.

Best islands to explore by bike:

Brač – climbs, views & traditional villages

Brač is the highest island in the Adriatic and perfect if you want a mix of climbing and scenic riding. You’ll cycle through inland stone villages, olive groves, and vineyards, with routes leading to spectacular viewpoints.

The island is also known for its white limestone, used to build Diocletian’s Palace in Split. Quiet inland roads, historic settlements like Ložišća, and coastal towns like Sutivan make Brač a great all-around cycling destination.
